Adam Carolla on Occupy Wall Street
December 1st, 2011 | 4 comments
A recent (and much needed) Adam Carolla rant (below) on the Occupy Wall Street crowd reminds of me of the following untitled Hart Crane poem:
A man said to the universe:
“Sir I exist!”
“However,” replied the universe,
“The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation.”
Enjoy the rant. (Warning: Contains graphic language. Probably not safe for work.)

LMAO!
Firstly, I have to say that it’s a sad thing that I’m moved to comment on this “rant”, given Adam Carolla’s stature as an incredible intellectual and noted political commentator. Which is to say the guy is a complete tool and hardly qualified to say word one about OWS.
And his words and “arguments” clearly demonstrate his complete lack of any understanding of what OWS is about. It’s not about taxing the 1% more to pay for the rest. The rest of his statements about the coddled generations since the baby boomers are, at best, absurd.
Naomi Klein has a piece in the guardian about OWS which articulates the movement’s top 3 goals:
1) get the money out of politics.
2) reform the banking system to prevent fraud and manipulation; restore the Glass-Steagall Act.
3) draft laws against the little-known loophole that currently allows members of Congress to pass legislation affecting Delaware-based corporations in which they themselves are investors.
Not a single word in there about taxation. It’s about ending the corporate domination and control of government, getting rid of the fraud and criminality perpetrated by the big banks, and removing the means for members of congress to enrich themselves at the expense of ordinary citizens through illegal means.
I couldn’t quite listen to the entire “rant”, mostly because I felt myself getting dumber as I listened to that idiot. It’s kind of disappointing to see this sort ignorance perpetuated about the internet.
My son turned 18 in September. Here are some of the words of “wisdom” I gave him:
*As a child, I was obligated to provide you with food, clothing, and shelter. You’re an adult now. You are entitled to NOTHING. Always remember that.
* If you want, need, or desire something- work for it. If you want something bad enough, and you’re willing to work VERY hard for it, without giving up- you still might not get it.
* Life is RARELY fair. You don’t always get what you deserve- you may often get what you think you didn’t deserve. Don’t look to God and ask, “Why me?” … Why NOT you!?
*Regardless of all things around you- Think before you act. Do what you KNOW is right. YOU are responsible for yourself, your actions, and your character. Do things that make YOU proud of YOU.
But mostly I wanted him to know that he was in NO WAY entitled to ANYTHING.
Vickie,
Be careful! You teacher you kid that kind of self control and he might end up as one of the evil 1%!
